Two Charity Awards Presented by Atul Kochhar
Atul Kochhar Presents Two Charity Awards
I was honoured to recently present two awards at The Charity Awards, for awards in International Aid and Development and in Healthcare and Medical Research.
This year’s glittering ceremony took place at The Royal Lancaster in London last night, and I was so impressed to hear of the charity campaigns from all of the winners and nominees featured at the event.
I’d also like to extend another huge congratulations to all of the winners, particularly Freedom of Torture who won the Overall Award for Excellence for its #StopTheFlights campaign, which convinced four commercial airlines to rule themselves out of the running for government contracts to fly asylum seekers to Rwanda. Plus the winners of both the International Aid and Development and in Healthcare and Medical Research awards, Our Sansar and The Fisherman’s Mission.
Both charities perform admirable work and are worthy winners. Our Sansar works directly with families and factory owners to rescue children from forced labour in dangerous factories in Nepal. The Fisherman’s Mission, on the other hand, has a “Sea Fit programme” in partnership with The Seafarers’ Hospital Society, which provides thousands of fisherman with immediate healthcare and wellbeing services, at the quayside, for issues that would otherwise be left untreated due to the unpredictable patterns of their work at sea.
